This German Junghans 1972 FIS Edition Automatic Limited Edition 2021 027/4160.44 watch belongs to the 1972 series which refers to the year when Junghans was the official timekeeper of the Munich Summer Olympics. This Limited Edition, numbering 500 pieces for the whole world, refers to the World Ski Championships 2021, which will take place in Oberstdorf, Germany. Junghans is proud to be the official partner and timekeeper of the event, which is being held in Oberstdorf for the third time in its history.

The Junghans 1972 FIS Edition Automatic Limited Edition 2021 027/4160.44 watch is equipped with a Junghans J830 mechanical movement (based on the Japanese Grand Seiko 9S51 movement), which is equipped with an automatic winding mechanism. The movement is protected by a 3-point shock absorber, similar to the historic Trilastic. It is not only travellers who will appreciate the bi-directional internal GMT lunette around the perimeter of the dial, which allows time readings in second time zone. This lunette is operated by the crown at position 2, while the crown at position 4 is used to set the time and date. A handy date indicator can be found at the third hour position. The clear dial is protected by a sapphire crystal that is maximally scratch-resistant. A double-sided anti-reflective layer ensures legibility even in bright light.

The 46.9 mm diameter case is made of stainless steel and is complemented by a steel bracelet. The logo of the 2021 Nordic World Ski Championships can be found on the watch. In the special packaging, which is based on the design of the championship medal, we also find two extra leather straps. These straps in dark blue and white perfectly match the design of the case and are thus a great revival and complement to the practical steel bracelet. Also included is a tool for changing the straps. The water resistance of this model is 300 meters (30 ATM), so the watch can handle even greater contact with water, such as diving. The water resistance is enhanced by the fact that the both crowns are screw-on.

This limited edition, numbering a mere 500 pieces, refers to the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. This is the third time it has been held in Bavarian Oberstdorf (previously in 1987 and 2005). As usual, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined will be on the programme. Junghans is the official timekeeper and proud partner of the event. The partnership with this event is taken very seriously by the Schramberg-based watch brand, as evidenced by the establishment of a partnership with the new ambassador Karl Geiger. This German ski jumping representative is a native of Oberstdorf and is the current World Ski Jumping Champion (2020 in Planica, Slovenia). He will therefore be defending not only the colours of his country and hometown, but also of the traditional watchmaker Junghans at a literally home-grown championship. The first ever World Nordic Ski Championships has a Czech footprint, as it took place in 1925 in Janské lázně.
